Borland...Fiordland National Park

Before I get to my post about Wellington, I'll tell you about Borland, where we just had a kayaking trip.

And my biggest claim to fame after going through Class 3 rapids was that I never tipped over! We had practiced different kinds of rescues for hours in a pool and pond over 2 separate days. I've always been very confident in the water- growing up on the beach will do that. I learned from a very young age that it's best to not fight water (i.e. a wave), relax and sit quietly on the ocean's bottom until you feel the current subside and pop up for air again.

But I had never sealed myself in a boat and attacked rapids before. This was another situation, like Velodrome, where there was no room to be cautious or scared, and the attitude prevailed.

Woot woot! Look how dry I am!

About a week ago, eight of us had gotten together at one of our houses to watch some Flight of the Conchords and this epic (and extremely silly) 80s New Zealand film called 'Goodbye Pork Pie' where the characters roadtrip from Auckland to Invercargill (sound familiar?!) in a yellow Mini-Cooper, known as 'The Blondini.'

So naturally, I named my boat The Blondini.

This was the view from our campground, where the sheep greeted us every morning. I missed the opportunity to snap a picture of them literally lining up along the fence staring and 'baah'-ing at us. It was awesome.

And I'm really loving the look of fog...

We were in tents (as you can see on the left), but a couple people found out that the cabins (on the right) were unlocked, so a few of us quietly snuck into one the second night. Glorious. Teehee!
